Wandering with Wren: Verulamium Part & St Albans Cathedral

Wren had a lovely wander around Verulamium and St Alban's Abbey the other day.

She read about the London Gate

and then sat on the ruins of it.

Even though the weather wasn't the best, it did start to clear up and she saw some blue sky.

Sadly the lake has been flooded for many months now.

Hopefully they will do something to reinstate it, so people can once again enjoy walking around it.

The river was running well.

She walked up to the Abbey which was actually very busy as they had had a graduation ceremony there, and I think another was due in the afternoon, as the students/graduates were lining up when we were leaving.

Lovely stained glass windows.

So much to see, I didn't take  photos of the descriptions this time.  But Henry visited several years ago, and his blog about it can be found here: 2013: St Albans Magna Carta Festival  and again in 2014:
Helen's Visit: St Albans Visit with Friends.

Lovely vases of flowers.

Wren enjoys nature, and stands on one of the Roman Wall remains.

Snow drops

Pretty crocuses.

More snowdrops.

So pretty.

Part of the Abbey with a now beautiful blue sky.

Meet Tiffany

Well it seems this girl now has a name:

As I walked past her last night, Tiffany came to mind, I have no idea how or why, but it did.

So Tiffany it is!

She is wearing a dress I knitted a few years ago.

Happy Valentines Day

A few of the smaller girls have dressed up for Valentines Day

We have: Hitty Madge, Kiwi Sindy, Little Miss, Was Willow, but now waiting on a name change, Lili, Wren, Now Willow, Nancy and Nancy Ann Storybook who is either called, He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, or Queen of Hearts. Personally I think she should be called 'Love Letters'.

All the dolls are wearing dresses made by me, except, Nancy, and 'Love Letters'

Wow! An Exciting Parcel.

Wow!  I didn't realise just how long it had been since I last blogged.  I am going to try and blog more this year...but no promises.

My lovely husband has been spoiling me...

This huge box arrived last week, and no it is not a dolls house, of which that hobby has been occupying me quite extensively the last year or so.

Instead, inside we have SIX Makies tubes.

with SIX Makie dolls inside for me to dress and develop characters for.

Three boys - they won't necessarily be keeping the wigs they are wearing.

and three girls.

I have temporarily dressed the girls in some of Wren's clothes...shhhh don't tell her, she doesn't know yet.

To say I am absolutely thrilled is an understatement and I am so very grateful for the lovely lady who sold them to me and for my lovely husband for buying them for me.  Thank you both so very much.

I am looking forward to finding out what their little characters are, and how they fit in with the rest of the Makies here on Makie Island.

Blue Monday

Well this is a surprise, I haven't posted anything in ages, so kicking off the week with a 'Blue Monday' or 'Monday Blue's post of my sweet Edith (Miss Dolly, 16 inches) wearing this fabulous blue sailor suit made by a talented Schoenhut Seamstress.  The weather is certainly dismal and dreary and quite appropriate for Monday blues....

Happy St George's Day

Revisiting a post from 2012!  However the sentiment is just the same!

Henry threw himself into the whole St George's Day celebration today...donning himself in a pair of red and white shorts...although he grumbled about not having a plain red pair...and arming himself with a sword, posters and my ornamental dragon teapot.

What are you doing Henry?

I'm fighting the dragon Mum

I'm not sure a little dragon looks that convincing Henry!

But I look good with my sword don't I?

Yes indeed you do Henry, although I think you could probably do with some armour to go with that!

I made a shield Mum, but forgot to use it!

Oh well at least you will be prepared if you ever come across a big dragon.

Yikes! Henry exclaims as Mum wanders off and a HUGE dragon breathing fire swoops down...

I wish I hadn't forgot to wear my shield now, and I WISH Mum would hurry and make my suit of armour!

Fortunately Henry survives his encounter with the dragon to fight and play another day!

Happy St George's Day everyone!

Henry wishes everyone a Happy St George's Day and hopes no dragons need to be slayed today!

Happy St George's Day everyone!

Peggy Sue's New Doll

Peggy Sue is thrilled with her new little bedpost doll made by the lovely Astrid whom we have had several dolls from.

This little doll was a gift and Peggy Sue feels so lucky to have her.

She is making the most of the lovely sunshine we have had today.

Fortunately she doesn't feel the cold, as it is still a bit chilly!
