Friday Five

Five photos of my Little Poppet in garden today.

I wonder what she was doing, I wonder what she would say.

Followed by her lamb Millie

She really is quite pretty.

  1. I was going to say 'what size is she' then I recognised the dress!

    1. I was really surprised it fitted her, as she had been wearing a studio sasha type dress. Really pleased as I think it fits just right :-)

  2. Is this a Lenci doll? I really want one of those someday because of the Dare Wright books, but I think they're a little out of my price range at the moment.

    1. No she isn't, a friend made this doll, although I think she is based on Lenci style.

  3. She is so cute! I love the look of the Lenci (and similar) felt dolls. The face painting is very similar looking to the Kathe Kruse dolls. You friend did an excellent job making this doll.

  4. She looks so sweet with her rabbit and lamb, and who knows, maybe the Easter Bunny wants to join them?

    1. Thank you. I would imagine the Easter Bunny was very busy visiting everyone and leaving eggs to be found.

  5. What a sweet and adorable Little Poppet girl by Janet Myhill Dabbs. She is definitely based on a mixture of the Lenci and Kath Kruse styles. When I was at boarding school one of the Spanish exchange students used to make doll's heads out of felt, similar to this, and attach them to fine cord material flat bodies trimmed with fluffy fur, to lie on your bed and hold your nighties or PJs. I was lucky enough to buy one and it remained lying on my bed for many years to come.
Then when I was out in Spain on my honeymoon I was able to buy another doll made on similar lines to Janet's though slightly stockier and shorter in height.
    Charming post.

    1. Thank you Kendal. So lovely to hear about those you saw while at boarding school by the Spanish exchange students. How interesting. Sounds like you had a very special one as well. Do you still have your honeymoon doll?

This girl reminds me so much of my sister when she was young, she always had a slightly 'serious' look to her as well, and the first time I saw this doll I admired her.
