Tea for Two Tuesday & Red Squirrel Watching

On Tuesday we were invited to a lovely afternoon tea at our friend Chris's house.

Clementine was very pleased to visit Mary and thoroughly enjoyed her 'posh' tea.

She looks lovely a pink dress and cardigan she borrowed from Peggy Sue.

Mary is just exquisite.

The afternoon tea was delicious!

Much chit chat went on.

Henry joined them...

and tied to sneak a roll while they were chatting.

Gigi visited Ten Ping and her family in her delightful little house

It was just a very lovely way to spend an afternoon.

We also had a delicious afternoon tea.

Plus thoroughly enjoyed watching the red squirrels feeding.

Although we get a lot at our place, they tend to stay in the hazel nut trees, so we don't see them so often.

Madeline's guest for morning tea today was Gigi.

They enjoyed a good chat and copious amounts of tea!

The Rose Cottage Friends are pleased to be reinstating 'Tea for Two' Tuesday, a very civilised way of spending a morning.

Madeline was pleased to have Vera round to visit this morning and they had a good old natter about all sorts of things.

Lewis and Peggy Sue have their dolls Wallace and Wendy Widget joining them today.

Who is W. E. Gladstone?  Lewis asks.

He was Prime Minister while Queen Victoria was the Monarch.  Peggy Sue tells him.

I wonder what it was like being the Prime Minister in Victorian times?  Lewis says.

Well he must have liked it, because he was a Prime Minister four times!  Peggy Sue tells him.

Either that or no one else wanted to do the job.  Lewis thinks to himself...

William Ewart Gladstone has been consistently ranked as one of Britain's greatest Prime Ministers. He certainly had a long career in politics lasting over 60 years.  Four times he served as Prime minister.  1868 - 74, 1880 - 85, February - July 1886 and 1892 - 94 resigning for the final time when he was 84 years of age.  Mr Gladstone was also Britain's oldest Prime Minister.  Not only was he Prime Minister, but he also served as Chancellor of the Exchequer four times! What a busy man he was.  

He also seemed to like changing which Political Party he was involved with starting with:

Tory (1828 - 34)
Conservative (1834 - 46)
Peelite (1846 - 59)
Liberal (1859 - 98)

If the history of Politics interests you, then more can be found by looking him up on the internet...but this is more than enough politics for these two for the day.

With the early morning sun streaming through the window, Madeline and Wren enjoy a cup of tea together.

Peggy Sue and Lewis enjoy a cup of tea together. Peggy Sue was delighted to be able to use her 'new' teapot, and Staffordshire China cup and saucer that she found yesterday while out.  Lewis is using another of her 'special' cup and saucer set.  They were interested to read the following quote:

Of course this lead to discussion about Sir Edmund Hillary as they had both heard about him from family members.  

Sir Edmund Hillary is probably New Zealand's most Iconic Explorers.    In what I now term as my 'other life' I used to work in Hillary Square, Orewa, New Zealand and just outside my workplace windows was the statue of Sir Edmund Hillary.  He was an explorer,  mountaineer, and philanthropist. 

The yellow building behind the statue of Sir Edmund Hillary is now an AA Office, but it used to be the home of The National Bank where I worked in my late teens/early twenties.

Hitty Madge and Wren were pleased to be able to admire the statue of this amazing explorer up close. 

Sir Edmund Hillary along with Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest on 29th May 1953.   He devoted most of his life to helping the Sherpa people of Nepal through the Himalayan Trust he founded following his ascent of Everest and through his efforts many schools and hospitals were built in Nepal.  He reached the South Pole overland in 1958 as part of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition and subsequently also reached the North Pole. He was the first person to reach both poles and the summit of Mount Everest.  Pretty impressive!

Tea for Two Tuesday

It has been two months since I have posted a 'Tea for Two Tuesday'.  

Today two congenial bears met for a cup of tea and a cake.

Brodie is in awe of McKenzie and listens to all he has to say...

After all, McKenzie LOOKS wise and wonderful.

Brodie is looking forward to eating his slice of chocolate cake.

McKenzie is rather parched and looking forward to his cup of tea.

There were various tea parties planned for today..but wet weather put the various participants off as these were to be held in the garden.  Fortunately the wet weather didn't prevent Madeline from entertaining a friend.

While I have been busy editing and uploading photos for 'Henry's Yearbook'  Madeline has been entertaining little Brittany.

I wish I could have stopped and had a cup of tea with a friend!

Brittany was visiting from the Hitty Family at Rose Cottage.

Madeline enjoyed entertaining Penny this morning.  It was the perfect morning for having a cuppa before going for a stroll in the garden.

The must have gobbled up the biscuits quickly though as one minute they were there, and then they were gone!
