School Supplies.

Peggy Sue and Lewis have been busy today helping to get things ready for the new Science Room.  Some more posters have been laminated, worksheets printed and magazine folders made.

Lewis and Peggy Sue worked hard collating the worksheets

They put them into subject order

They started sorting out the magazines.

Plenty of space magazines.

Folders and magazine holders were made.

Each student will have their own folder.

Folders and Magazines stored nicely in the holders ready for use.

Creative 2018

Sasha, Emily and Sophia got changed out of their Christmas dresses today and wanted to show what they chose to wear - actually they didn't have a lot of choice as it was too wet to go down to the studio to get the majority of their clothes, so they had to make do with what was available!

One of the things I want to do this year is make more things.  I did a LOT of knitting last year, and a little sewing (not as much as I would normally do) and not a lot else.  As I am still not allowed to knit, I need to find other creative outlets.   One of the projects I have had in mind is to further develop the 'Schoenhut School of the Arts', starting with a science room.

Armed with the laminating machine and some printouts...

I fired it up and got it running...

...and made a start.

Lewis is quite excited about the prospect of a science lab.

We have been sorting through his trunk of clothing and accessories today, which will be the topic of another post and ongoing project, so he was pleased for some respite to help with something a bit more exciting.

Testing the Water.

After collecting their sample of water the boys head indoors to find Peggy Sue.  Rory has told Henry about Peggy Sue's sore neck and he was going to ask Peggy Sue how it was today, but Henry thought it probably better to avoid the subject, especially as Rory wanted Peggy Sue to look at his water for him.

We've bought you some pond water Peggy Sue.  Henry says as Rory puts the little bottle with the sample of water down on the table.

What's that for?  Peggy Sue asks.

It is so you can test it for us.  Rory tells her.

Test it for what?  Peggy Sue asks.

Well you should know, you are the scientist!  Rory says. Or at least you want to be.

Perhaps just see if there is anything small in it.  Henry suggests.

Sounds like a good idea to me.  Peggy Sue agrees.

She takes the top off the little sample bottle.

I've got to put a little drop on this slide and then put the mount over the top.  She tells them.

Right, lets put it on the stage.  She says.

What's a stage?  Rory asks.

That's the little platform that the slide sits on.  Peggy Sue explains.

Now I just have to get it in focus.  She says.

Rory watches in awe.  Can you see anything yet?  He asks.

I just need to do some fine adjustments.  Peggy Sue tells him as she moves the slide slightly and refocuses.

While Peggy Sue had been focusing the microscope, Rory noticed the cork hadn't been put back in the bottle.  Better put this back on.  He says.  It might spill otherwise.

That's better!  I think I can see something now.  She tells them.

So what can you see?   Henry and Rory both ask at the same time.

Well...she says.  Let me explain.

She gets down and starts to explain what she saw, or rather what she thought she saw.

The boys listen intently.

So it is like this you see...  as a microblogogist...   she tells them.

A what?  Rory says.

A microblogogist.  She says again.

Um...I think you might have the name mixed up slightly Peggy Sue.  Henry says as he looks kindly at her.

What do you mean? Peggy Sue asks.

Well blog is what people write things on for the internet...  I don't think there is anything like a microblogogist - because micro means very small and I don't think people would read blogs if the writing was microscopic!  Henry explains.

I know that!  Peggy Sue tells him all flustered.  That's why it's called a microscope!

Um...I think you mean microbiologist.  Henry explains patiently.

Of course!  Peggy Sue says.

That's exactly what I said!

Well not really Peggy Sue.  Rory said.

What do you mean, not really?  Peggy Sue says.

Rory takes cover behind Henry.

Of course you meant microbiologist Peggy Sue.  I think you will be an excellent scientist.  Henry reassures her.

The boys never did quite find out what Peggy Sue saw on the slide!

Becoming a Scientist.

What are you doing Peggy Sue?  Henry asks.

I'm going to be a scientist.  She answers.

Why are you still in your pyjamas?  Stevie asks.

Yes why?  Peggy Sue also asks.

Well, um, because they are comfy.  Henry replies.

What's wrong with being in my pjs?

Um., nothing...the girls reply.

Anyway, Peggy Sue says, Do you want to know what I am what I an scientificing?

That's not a word!  Stevie says,

Sure it is.  Peggy Sue says.

Go on then, tell us all about it.  Both Stevie and Henry tell Peggy Sue.

Well, this is a microscope, which means I can look at tiny things!

I put a slide under here...

They watch on fascinated.

Then you look through the top eye piece...trouble is I can't reach...hang on a minute...

...there that is better.  Peggy Sue says as she stands on a box.

.
Wow!  This is amazing!  She says.

What can you see?  They ask her.

Well...Peggy Sue begins... and does various hand waving to illustrate how tiny things are made big.

They look at her amazed.

Can I have a look?  Stevie asks.

'Course you can.  Peggy Sue says.

Stevie has a look down the microscope.

Well?  Peggy Sue says.

Well...I am not sure... Stevie tells her.

What do you mean you are not sure?  Peggy Sue asks.

Yeah, what do you mean?  Henry also asks Stevie.  Surely you saw something?

I did, but I don't really know what it was. Stevie explains.

It was probably cells.  Peggy Sue says knowledgeably.

I've got to write up my results.

Peggy Sue diligently writes up her results and draws a diagram of what she saw.

Stevie is still not convinced she saw anything.

Henry says maybe he will have a look to see.
