They're going to ask you to take a bigger case to fit theirs inside! I hope you have a safe journey and can find space in your luggage for some lovely NZ fabric and wool coming back. We'll miss your blog updates and hope you get to rest and relax.
Well they've been told in no uncertain terms that they can't take their cases...their clothes will have to go in a plastic bag, so it is lighter! Some rumblings going on....
I understand they wanted to use these great suitcases - but the plastic bag will do. Have a nice holiday! I'm looking forward to you returning to blogging...
Hi Lorraine--on the practical side, how do you travel with the dolls--especially Henry and Peggy Sue? I'm planning a trip to New York later in the summer and would like to bring Benjamin Roy with me, but I'm not sure how to "pack" him. In my checked suitcase? In my carry-on (usually a backpack)? I'm worried that if I take him through security with me, the TSA agents will try to take him apart to peer inside. Any advice? John
They always travel in my hand luggage, I would never put them in the 'checked' luggage - I would be too worried they go missing. They go through the xray machines no problem and I've never been questioned.
Here is a link to how I travelled with him one year - I got some looks I can tell you! ;-) http://sewingforsasha.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/sashagregor-carrying-tote-travel-bags.html
I've travelled with dolls - always in hand luggage, never in hold luggage. I have the advantage of a child travelling with me sometimes, but even so, I have travelled without the child while carrying my dolls in my bag on international flights. They scan fine and no one has ever questioned me about them yet. You might want to wrap him in bubble wrap in your backpack to protect him from anything else you have in there, especially anything hard or sharp.
I suppose they think you should leave all your things at home in order to make room for them and their things. You'll be here in NZ by now; I'm a little late reading blogs this week.
I think that we all tend to take much more than we'll ever need but that's life and it's 'just in case' madness. Usually I lay out everything on the spare bed about a fortnight before travelling and then make myself eliminate ONE item a day... so at least I'm fourteen items lighter when I leave. Safe journey, enjoy being with your parents and have fun!
Have fun! Norvell
